It seems to go on forever and ever and ever in every corner and certainly in every nook and cranny. I parked and entered, and was astounded by the lights and noises and the tremendous abundance of slot machines and gambling stations. Anyway, I found this place as the only action place at 7 PM in the town. However, that’s Charleston and this is Charles Town - that’s embarrassing for the self-styled geography whiz that I consider myself to be. After finishing my long day of hiking at the fantastic Harpers Ferry National Historical Park (read my review), I decided to visit what I thought was the nearby capital city of West Virginia. PROS * Large casino area * Stunning number of many hundreds of individual machines and dozens of tables * Noisy and destabilizing * Wide wide carpeted brightly lit area * Many many side areas * Cafeteria food * Interesting horse racing (and betting) * See, watch, observe meet, and interact with real local people, and not only other tourists or those involved in service in the tourist industry * Free multi level parking garage CONS * Loud bright and noisy- quite a surprise and distress to the eyes and ears “I VISITED THIS PLACE”… … as a very, very pleasant surprise for me, because I hadn’t planned on coming here – I didn’t even know that the place existed.
